VIETNAM
Dr Bui-Thi Hanh-Duyen is the Head of the Intensive Care Unit at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and also holds significant leadership roles, including Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Society of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Candidate Governor for Vietnam of the International Council for Respiratory Care (ICRC). Additionally, she is an Executive Committee Member of five national and Ho Chi Minh City professional societies.
With more than 20 years of experience in critical care medicine, internal medicine, and respiratory medicine, her professional interests focus on sepsis, coagulation disorders, extracorporeal therapies, respiratory care, and critical care research. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in international journals.
She is actively involved in developing critical care education in Vietnam, promoting high-quality clinical research and international collaboration. Her vision is to advance intensive care services to international standards through excellence in patient care, education, and research. She was a recipient of the collective KOVA Award (2017) and the collective Vietnam Medical Achievement Award (2022).
INDONESIA
Erlina Burhan is a pulmonologist and infectious disease consultant at Persahabatan Hospital, Jakarta, and a Professor of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. She specializes in tuberculosis (TB), including drug-resistant TB, with extensive experience in clinical management, research, and policy advisory.
Her research career began in Namibia, and she later completed a PhD focusing on TB drug plasma concentrations and treatment response. She has led and contributed to numerous national and international clinical trials and multicenter studies, including the implementation of BPaL/BPaLM regimens in Indonesia, the TRUNCATE-TB trial on shorter treatment regimens, and the M72 TB vaccine study supported by the Gates Medical Research Institute.
She serves on the Board of Directors of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and is a Board Member of the Stop TB Partnership Global Board, representing the Private Sector Providers Constituency. She also holds advisory and consultant roles for the World Health Organization, the Indonesian National TB Program, and TB programs in Timor-Leste.
TAIWAN
Dr. Fang Yeh Chu is a distinguished leader in laboratory medicine, currently serving as the Director of Clinical Pathology at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital and President of the Asian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (ASCPaLM). His extensive experience in standardizing in-vitro diagnostics and leading national technical committees makes him uniquely qualified to discuss the integration of sophisticated testing algorithms for respiratory tract infections within clinical and laboratory workflows
JAPAN
Hiroshi Yatsuhashi, M.D., is a distinguished leader in hepatology, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nagasaki Hospital Agency and Honorary Director of the National Hospital Organization (NHO) Nagasaki Medical Center. Since 2004, he has held a professorship at Nagasaki University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences within the Division of Viral Hepatitis.
Dr. Yatsuhashi’s career includes significant administrative and clinical roles. In administrative leadership, he previously served as the Director and Assistant Director of the NHO Nagasaki Medical Center. His primary research expertise focuses on viral hepatitis, antiviral therapy, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
In grant leadership, he is the Principal Investigator for an AMED project on liver cirrhosis quality of life and an MHLW grant regarding human rights for individuals with hepatitis. Professionally, he is a board-certified hepatologist and gastroenterologist, an editorial board member for Hepatology International, and a member of multiple MHLW councils.
PAKISTAN
Dr. Huma Qureshi is a distinguished researcher and consultant gastroenterologist. She previously held a significant leadership role as the Executive Director of the Pakistan Medical Research Council. A pivotal contribution to public health was her work in conducting the first national survey on the “Prevalence of Hepatitis B and C in General Population of Pakistan.
Currently, Dr. Qureshi serves as the focal point for viral hepatitis for the government of Pakistan. In this capacity, she is dedicated to public health policy, notably by developing a comprehensive national project for the elimination of hepatitis C in the country.
INDIA
Dr. Justin Gopaldas is an Intensive Care Medicine specialist with extensive clinical experience across Australia, the United Kingdom, and India. Currently serving as a Senior Registrar in Intensive Care, he is responsible for managing critically ill patients across a broad range of specialties, including medical, trauma, neurosurgical, burns, and cardiothoracic care. In addition to providing comprehensive patient management and procedural expertise, he actively contributes to clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary critical care services. With advanced skills in invasive procedures, he has a strong interest in improving outcomes for critically ill patients through evidence-based practice and research. He is also deeply committed to medical education, delivering clinical, procedural, and simulation-based training to medical students, nurses, residents, and junior registrars. Having participated in numerous audits, academic programs, and leadership activities, he combines clinical excellence with a passion for teaching, mentorship, and continuous improvement in critical care medicine.
HONG KONG
Professor Yuen is the Chair Professor at The University of Hong Kong and holds the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professorship in Medicine. He serves as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He pursued significant academic distinction, earning three doctoral degrees after his MBBS in 1992.
Internationally recognized for his work on chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatocellular carcinoma, his research focuses on disease prevention, virology, and therapeutic development. He has published over 650 articles in prestigious medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet. He also served as the lead author on 10 seminal articles.
He leads numerous international clinical trials for new antiviral and immunomodulatory HBV therapies and advises pharmaceutical companies. His expertise is utilized by coalitions such as ICE-HEP. For his outstanding contributions, Professor Yuen will be awarded the "Bruce Witte Distinguished Scholar" in November 2025.
INDIA
Dr Niraj Tyagi is a Consultant in the Institute of Critical Care Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, India, and the Founder Secretary of the Indian Sepsis Forum. As an intensivist, his special interests are sepsis, diagnostic stewardship, and antimicrobial optimization, actively advancing evidence-based critical care practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
He has co-authored several national critical care guidelines, including on acute kidney injury, renal replacement therapy, nutrition, MRSA, and procalcitonin for antimicrobial stewardship and contributed to the Asia-Pacific consensus on procalcitonin-guided antibiotic stewardship.
His scholarly work encompasses over 25 peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and original research focused on sepsis biomarkers, culture-negative sepsis, tropical infections, and critical care outcomes. Through his research, guideline development, and educational initiatives, he has consistently worked to translate emerging evidence into practical strategies that improve diagnosis, antimicrobial use, and patient outcomes in critical illness.
THAILAND
Nittaya Phanuphak is Executive Director at the Institute of HIV Research and Innovation (IHRI) in Bangkok, Thailand.
She has deep interest in the establishment and sustainability of the Key Population-Led Health Services (KPLHS) which empower key population lay providers who are members of key population communities to design and co-deliver sexual and reproductive health, mental health, rights, and harm reduction services to their peers.
She provides research support to various implementation science and clinical trial studies as principal investigator or site-principal investigator. She has served as Chair, Co-Chair and member of several WHO Guidelines Development Groups and Strategic and Technical Advisory Committees. She has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles. She has been the International AIDS Society (IAS) Governing Council Representative of Asia and the Pacific Islands during 2018-2026. She also serves as the Deputy
Editor of the Journal of International AIDS Society (JIAS) and the Associate Editor of Sexual Health.
THAILAND
Professor Pinyo Rattanaumpawan, MD, MSCE, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine at Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and serves as Executive Director of the Clinical Trial Unit. She leads the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Siriraj Hospital and holds key roles nationally and internationally, including with the Infectious Disease Association of Thailand, the National AMR Working Group, the National List of Essential Medicines (Infectious Disease Subcommittee), the WHO Technical Advisory Group on AWARE, and the GARDP Scientific Advisory Committee.
Her research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), with over 20 clinical trials and nearly 100 international peer-reviewed publications. Her work has been recognized by the 2026 SHEA International Ambassador Program, the 2019 SHEA William Jarvis Award, and the 2017 Institut Merieux Young Investigator Award.
THAILAND
Dr. Pipu Tavornshevin is a pulmonologist and intensivist at the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University, Thailand. He received his medical degree with first class honors from Vajira Hospital in 2016 and completed residency training in Internal Medicine, followed by fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. His clinical and research interests include pulmonary tuberculosis, pulmonary and critical care medicine, and active tuberculosis case finding. Dr. Tavornshevin provides care for patients with tuberculosis at a tertiary care center and has contributed to the development of community-based active tuberculosis case-finding programs in urban populations, Bangkok. His work focuses on improving early tuberculosis detection and expanding access to screening among high-risk and underserved populations. This initiative has become a practical model for active tuberculosis case-finding strategies in Thailand.
THAILAND
PHILIPPINES
Dr. Rugaiya W. Calapis is a seasoned specialist on tuberculosis with over a decade of experience in tuberculosis control. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and currently serves as a TB Specialist and TB Consultant. Previously, she was the Programmatic Management of Drug-resistant Tuberculosis Treatment Center Head at San Lazaro Hospital, a national tertiary referral hospital for infectious diseases.
Dr. Calapis is recognized speaker at regional and international conferences. She chairs the DOH NCR South TB Medical Advisory Committee and serves on the National TB Medical Advisory Committee and several technical working groups. She co-authored multiple publications on DRTB outcomes and testing. Currently, she’s part of the team who worked on the Department of Health Guidelines on DRTB Preventive Treatment and the stool-based low-complexity nucleic acid amplification test for PTB among children.
INDIA
Dr. Subramanian Swaminathan, MD, DNB, ABIM, AB Infectious Diseases, is the Director of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control at Gleneagles Hospitals in Chennai and Bengaluru, India. With over 25 years of experience, he is an international resource in the field of transplant infectious diseases with extensive hands on experience with kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, small intestine, uterus and hand transplant related infections.
In his role at Gleneagles Hospitals, Dr. Swaminathan oversees patient care related to infectious diseases. He also serves as the Chairman of the Hospital Infection Control (HIC) committee at BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital in Bengaluru and chairs the Infection Control Advisory Group for Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
Dr. Swaminathan is the Program Director for Microbial Medicine and Infections Control at Gleneagles Global Health City in Chennai. Additionally, he is President of the Clinical Infectious Diseases Society of India.
With his extensive expertise, Dr. Swaminathan is committed to providing high-quality care to patients with infectious diseases and implementing robust infection control practices at the hospitals he serves.
THAILAND
Dr. Tawesak Tanwandee is a distinguished hepatologist and Professor of Gastroenterology at the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, where he has dedicated over 35 years to clinical practice, research, and medical education.
He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, President-Elect of the Gastroenterological Association of Thailand, and Secretary General of the Liver Foundation of Thailand. Additionally, he is an esteemed steering committee member of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL). Dr. Tanwandee is a past President of both APASL and the Thai Association for the Study of the Liver (THASL).
His primary research interests focus on the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C, hepatocellular carcinoma, and the cost-effectiveness of hepatitis B and C therapies.
Dr. Tanwandee is an active member of several prestigious international organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and APASL.
THAILAND
Professor Teerha Piratvisuth is Professor of Medicine at the Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai, Thailand. He completed his medical degree with first-class honors, at the Prince of Songkla University in 1985. During 1993–94 he studied as a Clinical Fellow in hepatology at King’s College School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, UK. In 1995, he moved to the US, where he spent a further year as a Clinical Fellow in hepatology and endoscopy at the University Texas, Houston Medical School. He currently is the President of Gastroenterological Association of Thailand and holds the positions of Advisor of the NKC Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, faculty of medicine, Prince of Songkla University. He has served many important roles in international organizations such as: President of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL 2011), Vice President of Asia Pacific Digestive Week (APDW 2012), Chairman of the Scientific Program of World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO 2018), Honorary President of APASL 2021 and Chairman of the APDW 2023. He has published over 136 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including a number of studies on biomarkers and algorithms for HCC surveillance. He is also a reviewer and editorial board member of the international journals.
Professor Piratvisuth is a legendary educator, an outstanding hepatologist and devoted mentor who has shaped generations of clinicians and researchers in Thailand and across the globe over the past three decades. THAILAND
Assistant Professor Lieutenant Colonel Vasin Vasikasin (Paul) is an Infectious Disease consultant at Phramongkutklao Hospital and Phramongkutklao College of Medicine, Thailand, and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. His work focuses on rapid diagnostics and precision prescribing to combat the global threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). He recently completed his PhD at Imperial College London within the Centre for Antimicrobial Optimisation (CAMO). His research was related to the shift from empirical "one-size-fits-all" treatment to precision antibiotic prescribing. This includes the development of AI-driven clinical decision support systems for real-time AMR prediction and the innovation of point-of-care technologies, such as lateral flow assays for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Addressing the specific challenges of carbapenem-resistant and ESBL-producing bacteria in the Asia Pacific, he also serves as a member of ADVANCE-ID network. Within this international collaboration, he contributes to clinical trials evaluating rapid diagnostics and therapeutic options to combat AMR.
PAKISTAN
Prof Zaigham Abbas is Head of the Department of Hepatogastroenterology and Director of Liver Transplantation at the Dr Ziauddin University Hospital, Clifton, Karachi, Pakistan. He is an Honorary Consultant at The Aga Khan University Hospital and a Member and Ex-Dean of the Faculty of Gastroenterology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan.
Prof Abbas is the Past President of Pakistan Society for the Study of Liver Diseases, Past Governor of the American College of Gastroenterology for Pakistan, ex-member of the Executive Committee of APASL, and Past Vice President of the Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology. He is currently a member of APASL-ACLF Research Consortium (AARC), the APASL Metabolic Fatty Liver Disease Consortium (MAIDEN), and Hepatitis Delta International Network (HDIN).
He has participated as invited faculty in many international and APASL annual conferences. He has authored or co-authored about 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
