Antimicrobial stewardship program promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Antibiotic resistance occurs naturally, but misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals is accelerating the process. Studies have shown that the infection marker, procalcitonin (PCT), is helpful for reducing antibiotic exposure without compromising patient safety.
In this webinar, A/Prof Andrea Kwa will discuss the clinical utility of PCT on antibiotic stewardship in the management of sepsis and lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) including pneumonia and share her experience on PCT-guided antibiotic stewardship program in her hospital. Dr Asok Kurup will be moderating this webinar and sharing his experience in the management of sepsis from the perspective of an Infectious Disease Physician.
